Why do the home bleachers face west, into the sun, during football games?

The layout of the complex was planned to make the best overall use of the site, not just for football but also for track and field, baseball, and other activities.

Designers had to balance several factors, including field orientation for different sports, existing land slope, drainage, and how people move safely through the site. When all those pieces were considered together, this orientation provided the most practical and efficient solution, even though it means the sun can be a factor for spectators during some games.
